She is just as beautiful as her style and has such a unique take on using houseplants in her Brooklyn apartment. In this interview, we discuss how she gets her inspiration, tips and tricks for caring for houseplants, and her amazing styling ideas. Enjoy!

You have such a unique and amazing Instagram account, where do you get your inspiration?

Thank you so so much! Much of my inspiration and design honestly focuses on conveniency. Living in a small studio apartment, maintaining over 100 plants while keeping the space (livable and) practical can become a real task. I try to stick to mainly white planters in order to avoid the feel of noise/clutter and I mount many of my plants on the walls to maintain floor space.

Have you always been interested in plants or is it something new for you?

I grew up in a plant-filled home, thanks to my Mom – the OG Plantydropper. However, I didn’t really take on her love for plants or her green thumb until two years ago. Even then, if I had a plant that was struggling, I would give it right to my mom and she would revive it in no time. Now, I am proud to say that she is the one giving me her struggling plants to revive 🙂

How have you been able to use houseplants to make your house feel more like a home?

I think houseplants bring so much into a home. Aside from producing oxygen, they give such a strong sense of peace and positivity. I think it’s really important for us to connect to nature at least once daily.  Having plants in your home allow you to do this almost subconsciously. I truly cannot picture ever living without them!

What is your best houseplant care tip?

When it comes to caring for your plants, less is more! The number one cause for killing a houseplant is overwatering. Many people assume that plants are a huge responsibility to take on and therefore tend to over-care for them when actually, they thrive best when left to themselves. The rule of thumb for most houseplants is to water thoroughly until excess drains from the bottom and then wait until the soil dries out to water again.

When it comes to styling, what are some of your favorite plant combinations?

I always incorporate mirrors with my plants. I love the way that plants look in reflections and it helps to make the space feel more lush! It’s also really beautiful to see how the sun reflects back and forth between the foliage and the mirrors. I always go for a nice copper or brass framed mirror for detail.

For someone new to using houseplants at home, what advice would you give for starting on the right foot?

Do your research! Once you understand your plant, you will be better able to provide it with the necessary care that it needs (i.e. amount of sunlight, watering schedule, pruning, etc.). Also, don’t get discouraged! The best way, in my opinion, to be a successful plant parent is to learn from your own experience. Figure out which plants work best for you, what your plant responds well to, what it doesn’t like .. but most of all enjoy the process and have fun!

If you weren’t styling with plants, what other things would you use to make your house feel more like a home?

If I weren’t styling with plants, I would probably be focusing on artwork and textiles. Being surrounded by art, colors, textures, patterns that bring you joy is another great way to make your house feel like a home.
